The PADI Divemaster Course is the first professional level rating of the PADI system of diver education. Those who successfully complete the PADI Divemaster Course will have the skills and knowledge to become a PADI Assistant Instructor and/or a PADI Openwater Scuba Instructor. Throughout your PADI Divemaster Course you will learn how to supervise students in training, supervise certified divers and lots more. Additionally, your diving skills will be polished so that someone is able to watch your demonstration so that they are able to perform the same skill. Public speaking will become second nature.
If you enjoy scuba diving and are looking for an opportunity to work part time or full time in the Dive Industry, this is your entry point, with work here in Australia or in other parts of the world. The positions available in the Dive Industry are varied and challenging, Dive Centre’s, Live-aboard Dive Boats, Underwater Photography/Videography on board day boats and Resorts. As a PADI Divemaster you will have access to the Pro’s section of the PADI Website, this is where the employment board is, here there are a lot of Dive Centre’s, Charter Boats, Resorts advertising positions to be filled.
Whether you want a career change or just want something more challenging in scuba diving, this is the course that will do that for you, come and join the ranks of PADI Professionals who have to “blow bubbles” for a living. Course Prerequisites for PADI Divemaster
PADI Advanced Openwater and PADI Rescue Diver certifications (or qualifying certifications)
18 years old
Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician (Doctor) within the previous 12 months
40 logged dives
Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course completion within the last 24 months (or qualifying training)
Certification Requirements for PADI Divemaster
Completed all required segments of the PADI Divemaster Course
Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course completion within the last 24 months (or qualifying training)
60 logged dives
Documented experience in Underwater Navigation
Documented experience in Night Diving
Documented experience in Deep Diving
PADI Divemaster Duties
Supervise both training and non-training activities by planning, organizing and directing
Assist an Instructor during confined and Openwater training
Guide Openwater course students on the tour portion of Openwater Dives 2,3 and 4 at a 2:1 ratio, under the Instructor’s indirect supervision
Accompany Openwater students under the Instructor’s indirect supervision during surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and during navigational exercises, as well as supervise remaining students when the Instructor conducts a skill
Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or Specialty course dives under the Instructor’s indirect supervision
Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers independently. This also includes conducting the PADI Seal Team Aqua Mission: Skin Diver Specialist
Conduct the Discover Snorkelling program
Conduct subsequent dives under the Instructor’s indirect supervision for Discover Scuba Diving participants at a 2:1 ratio, after participants have satisfactorily completed the first dive with the Instructor
Conduct the Discover Local Diving experience
Conduct the Scuba Review program for certified divers, or for PADI Scuba Divers who are refreshing their skills
Conduct the skin diving skills segment of the Openwater Diver course during any confined water dive
If qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or in confined Openwater
Accompany certified PADI Scuba Diving on subsequent dives
After completing the corresponding Instructor Training, you will be able to conduct
Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor
Emergency Oxygen Provider courses

Complete your study, including the quizzes and knowledge reviews in another location, Australia or any other part of the world. Then come to Whitsunday Diving Academy for the pool sessions and then complete the last two (2) Openwater days. An excellent option if you are planning a holiday here and would like to be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver while you are here.
Questions and Schedule
For the classroom and pool session you will need to bring your “knowledge review” completed for each of the modules, swimmers, towel and personal dive equipment. For the Openwater days you will need lunch, water bottle, swimmers, towel, hat, sun block and personal dive equipment.
